PhD Insurance

G

I am looking to do a PhD in Chemical Engineering, but I would like to know if I am covered by insurance before I begin applying. The reason I am concerned is that I have a history of accidently creating small explosions. During my first degree I accidently blew a hole in a lab wall, and was forced to transfer to another Unviersity where one of my experiements set the lab on fire. As an undergraduate student I was covered for both accidents, so is it the same for PhD students?? If anyone can help that would be fantastic.

Thanks.

this is a wind up, right?

Insurance only covers the financial loss. Blowing up a teaching lab merely results in some unexpected free afternoons for your fellow students. Obliterating a research lab can have longer term consequences as the retribution of the colleagues whose 3 years of sweat and toil you've destroyed will be swift and merciless.

haha

Yes! students definitely need insurance! My master degree is television studies, and I've got a pear shape and near sight since. Now I am up for the 4 year phD programme ahead. I sometime don't understand why I am doing this PhD!

That's hilarious, John! haha
