Seeking advice on journal illustrations

B

Hi All,

I am looking for advice on how to draw diagrams for a manuscript that I want to submit to a jorunal. I have recently finished writing a review article and my supervisor thinks including a diagram would strenthen our chances of publication. However I have never prepared a scientific illustration. Can anyone suggest anything better than MS Powerpoint?
Thanks.

Hi there!!

In my case MS Powerpoint is quite sufficient. Does the jom plain and simple.

3-4 times I experienced some difficulties and for that reason I used Smartdraw. There is a new version for 2010. Is also quite simple.
It is not freeware, but probably you can find somewhere (not including how or where, of course I know but I am now sure if we allowed to share links of that kind)

However, you should try MS Powerpoint, is my advice.

All the best

Inkscape is great, and freely downloadable. It's a vector graphics programme (kind of an open-source imitation of corel draw), but you can also convert the results into a bitmap format. Very good for diagrams of all sorts, in my opinion.

Official site: http://www.inkscape.org/
Downloadable also here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/
Some info on the programme: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inkscape
