Studentships for Africans ?

G

What are the chances for an african student (MSc) who lives in UK/Europe to get a PhD studentship in UK ?

G

a nigerian friend who did his masters in aberdeen (scotland), has been accepted to do a PhD with RGU.

If you have been 'ordinarily resident' in the UK for over 3 years you will be eligable for UK research council funding. Check the funding section of this site, which has links to the research council eligability criteria. If this is not the case try the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the British Council. Also visit UKCOSA for more information.

But if this african is a resident (and have done his master) in another european country ?

What are the posibilities for an Ethiopian to pursue his MSc in the UK?

As an international student, unless you have your own funding, it is very difficult to do a Masters degree in the UK. Some universities do offer a limited number of scholarships.

See our Funding section for links and information.

I had 2 Nigerian students on my first masters in Aberdeen in 2001-2002, they had innovation funding (see rgu for details).

This seems quite a lazy way to go about getting to do a PhD. Maybe a little self done research would help...

J

try looking through university websites for scholarships on offer and contact your British Coucil/ American Embassy or equivalent in your country for info on scholarships.

Is the possibility of getting PhD in any EU country with an MSc from Ethiopia?

N

Hey, my friend. I am African too with an MSc loking around fo a PhD. I think you can get a PhD whereever you want to do it from. It largely depends on your attitude. My advice is that you invest a little more time in active search on the internett of course. I t will not come on a silver plata.
So, all the best, pal.
