Suggestion about Choosing a university for PHD

O

Hello, my name is Omafume and I am currently a Msc student in informatics, with an intention to do PHD, but there are few issues I need clarification about.

1. How do I choose a university and how easy is it to get admitted.
2. Do anyone have an idea of the formal procedures for application and acceptance?
3. Are are selection procedure biased or do applicants merit the position?

Will be glad if I get some response because it will help me in making the decision I need.

Thanks.

D

Hi Omafume,

1. Look around for projects that interest you and contact supervisors you'd like to work with because you like their work. Don't go by the university alone. It depends on the demand, number of applicants and other factors but generally you need a 2:1 or above and a masters.

2. You'll have to complete an application form or forms most likely but follow the first point I made and take it from there.

3. I suspect it's a bit of both in the some PhD places are given on the basis of who you know but others are given on merit.

Hope this helps.
