University of Sussex

G

Hi, is there anyone currently doing their PhD at the University of Sussex? Is it a good place to study at? What are the best/worse things about doing a PhD there? Thanks

The University of Sussex in bassed on a campus in Falmer, which is just outside Brighton. Consequently it is a popular place. Many departments with the University of Sussex have a very good reputation. Which department are you going to work in?

G

I am considering working in the department of biochemistry. Does anyone know how well this department is rated and if it has a good reputation compared to other universities?

G

Dean, have a look at HERO, there's lots of useful information there about individual universities.

G

Highly rated Unis implicitly means highly competitive. Expect team work/acceptable social/ moral behaviour to negatively correlate with rating.

Biological Sciences (now part of the School of Life Sciences) at Sussex was rated 5 in the last Research Assessment Exercise.

G

Is there anyone currently at Sussex Uni or have studied at Sussex Uni who can tell me a bit about their experiences?

G

Yes, it's good in general- but don't expect them to remember to pay you time without reminding them.

G

I thought it was just a scottish habit
