Where to study

G

I finally found the person I wish to become my phd supervisor, but he is in a foreign university, shall i still contact him and ask whether he can give me a topic and a contact person in the country I wish to stduy? Is it possible that my primary supervisor will not be directly related to my work?

G

i know of a few people registered at an institution but carrying their work in another one elswhere, I guess it must be possible, depending on the supervision's flexibility and material's availability!

Thats a good question, I found an interesting research team in the US but would like to carry on my studies in the UK; what is the procedure...

I am french but following others advice, i decided to look for a phd in england. Which universities have the best ranking worldwide? Many thanks.

R.E. Laeticia the times newspaper publishes an annual list of the best UK universities.

As far as research goes all university departments are graded in the Research Assesment Exercise (RAE). 5 and 5* departments are the best. The RAE takes place once every 6 years. The results of RAE 2001 can be found at www.hero.ac.uk/rae/

again: please do anyone know how to reach a supervisor in a foreign school and ask him to give me a project for my phd, and a link person in my university; is this possible

Students do sometimes work in a different location from their supervisor, but this is usually a result of the supervisor relocating after the studentship has begun and the student choosing to stay put. The best thing to do is email the supervisor and ask them if it's possible. I expect that if you are wanting to do a PhD in the sciences it may be very difficult. Please let others on the forum know what reply you get.
