PhD admission query

R

Hi Guys, would anyone advice me whether I should choose university for PhD full time course: which is two hours away from my home or 40 minutes away.

Practical issues are travel time and the cost I am concerned for the most.

As after three unsuccessful applications. I applied again to two different universities and one university which is 2 hours away from my home after interview supervisors gave me offer in PhD. Few months later, second university which is 40 minutes away from my home offered me place in PhD whose interview did not go well and I know nothing whether I will be accepted or not. I am in real dilemma here. Please help me. It’s crucial to know if anyone has similar experience.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Ranch,

So you have 2 offers from 2 universities; one 40mins away, one 2 hours away. And you don't know which one to choose. Is that right?

Seriously, there are other things to consider. Which one has more funding? Which one is a a better university, supervisor, department, project etc ? Those are the some of the things I would consider before travel distance. A PhD is 3 years so making sure the PhD itself is best for you should be your priority. Also the interview doesn't matter now if you have offers from both of them. Hope this helps.

I'm a bit confused by your dilemma. If travel costs and time are your biggest concern then it seems a no brainer to go for the closer one, if you have an offer from it.

On the other hand, if the other uni is your preferred option, can you move? Or else are you willing to make that pretty big sacrifice about the travel?
