PhD Reputation & Suggestions

W

Hi guys! I guess this could be an interesting topic so here is my issue:

I was looking for a PhD position in Chemistry/Materials Science after I got my MSc in Italy.

I got some offers from a couple of UK Universities for a PhD in strong chemistry groups.
These groups work on a related field of my previous MSc thesis one but I would like to change my topic and find a position in something different. So I applied to a famous german Institute and I fortunately got one more offer! I was really happy but the Prof will move to KAUST (Saudi Arabia) next year so I should follow him. In this case (if I will accept this offer) I will work one year in Germany and then complete my PhD at KAUST.

My biggest concern is about the reputation of the PhD gained. I know the reputation of UK universities (as well the one of the german institute) but I don't know anything about the Saudi Arabia one.
What should I do? Do you know how industries or Universities consider a PhD from KAUST? I don't want to get a PhD that is not well accepted worldwide or that can let the other think I am not well qualified as the european/us doctorates.
I think the most important think is the kind of research you are going to do but at the same time I don't want to make mistakes chosing a not well esteemed University for such a crucial choice. I am scared that if I accept to get a PhD from KAUST (even if I will be selected first from a german institute, where I will spend one year) then I will find problems in getting a job later.

Please help me!! Thank you guys :)

Absolutely DITTO.

I'm inclined to agree. It might also be worth understanding why the supervisor is moving from the German institute to the Saudi one.

It also seems to me a little irresponsible of a supervisor to take on new students if they know they are moving in the near future. It's not that fair on existing students, so to take on new ones seems odd to me.
