Reference letter

B

Hi,
I have recently graduated (Masters) from an university in the UK and had applied for some PhDs and jobs. I had provided my supervisor and tutor - name for my references. I had already written mail to them about their name as referees and they had agreed to provide the references but I have got the feedback that the applicant universities and organisation never received any references (not a single institution). My little background - I am international but classified as home student hence from its outset they were disgusted for my fees. Is there anyway that I can have references.
Thanks for your help

You have to try to ask again, but that's all you can do...

I had got an offer of the admission with international fees even after staying in the UK for about 7 years (permanent home) as a British citizen and I had to take a help from one of the UK govt. official and they sent a letter to the school for my case. Finally my school changed the fees to home status and hence I became a bad candidate for them during this course.

Did you mean that you could not receive any reference even after giving your money and time. It's pretty bad.

Hi,

I think it's pretty unlikely that a lecturer would refuse to write a reference for you based on your fee status. If one of your referees is somewhere near the top of the food chain and has responsibility for budgets, that person might be a bit p'd off with you if your change in status caused a budget shortfall but even that doesn't seem very likely and is no reason for them not to write a reference. As TreeofLife says, you'll just have to ask again.
