salary policy for PhD candidate in Spain/Barcelona

A

Hi all,
I am wondering if someones can share his/her experience with PhD salary in Spain. I got shortlisted and interviewed for a PhD position in material science in Barcelona. I asked about salary, but the interviewer only told me about the monthly salary (1100 euro). I also forgot to ask for more detail, so this is my mistake. I am still wondering about more detail, like does it increase over time, do I get settlement fee, how about insurance, etc.I am pretty sure that it will cover some basic needs, and even some luxury, despite seems lower than standard salary in French (Paris) and Sweden. I will not complain for some increases though (if I get accepted of course :) ).
I hope someones here can share his knowledge for the matter. It will be very appreciated.

cheers,

D

There are only a few countries where the salary increases over time (e.g. Netherlands). 1100 euro sounds like the typical 50% position many people get. I never heard of a settlement fee. If you were told that this is the monthly salary, I wouldn't expect any other benefits. Countries like Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Netherlands or Switzerland generally pay much higher salaries to their PhD students.
