Continue current masters or do Msc mental health nursing?

Y

For context - I have a Bachelors of Science in Psychology with a good grade (2:1) in the UK. Last September I began a Msc Counselling course and have enjoyed placement. However I am finding myself frustrated feeling I am not making as much of an impact on individuals as I wish to.

Since graduating in Psychology I have worked as a healthcare assistant in a forensic psychiatric hospital for 2 years and enjoy this and could potentially see myself working as a mental health nurse, however can also see myself getting burnt out quickly in such a role. I also notice how mental health nurses often have more of a ‘administrative’ role in the wards rather than spending more time and communicating with patients as you do with counselling.

However, I am aware of the security nurses have within the job market and not having to worry about available roles out there. This is something I do worry about with Counselling. I suppose I am looking for advice which is the best path to go down? The mental health nursing course would be 2 years for me (Msc) 😕 Another worry of this is feeling I have ‘wasted’ my Psychology degree which I worked really hard for.

Thanks!
