Do those mug warmers really work?

Avatar for sneaks

I have trouble keeping my tea warm, I get distracted and then its all cold :-(

I've tried using a travel mug, but it tastes grim.

So do those USB cup warmers actually work?

Or any other suggestions for keeping tea warm?

Sneaks

Not sure about USB warmers.

But I had an insulated mug with lid from Starbucks that did the trick ( It didn't make my tea taste as bad as the cheapo travel ones.)

Now it doesn't work as well, 'cos I left it in the uni research centre and someone threw away the lid! Argghhhh

Those mug warmers do actually work, but don't keep all that warm really. I'd recommend just blasting your cup of tea in the microwave for 20 secs every time it goes cold.

Thanks matilda - might hunt out my local starbucks.

Wal - that means going downstairs :-( and then coming up again :-( and trying not to eat things when I'm waiting for the 20secs :-( - I have no self control

I have one and they do work a bit, I have a jug thermos thingy that I keep my tea in, it isn't too bad and is better than cold tea. The other thing you could do is invest in a small microwave to keep in your study - then you don't have to go downstairs near the food, but you also have hot tea - win win situation :-)

oh dear, I feel a bit lazy having a microwave - I'm only on the second floor (well first, up one flight of stairs) in a 3 bed house, so it really is lazy of me to have a microwave, although I do have a dolce gusto thingy on my desk to keep me super caffeinated if necessary.

Maybe I can get some kind of mug cosy?

*goes off to procrastinate..erm find a mug cosy*

Brilliant - I'm going to get my mum to knit me one of these!

A winning idea has just hit me. Why not just make a few cups of tea, pour it into a thermos flask and then just pour bit of the tea into a mug as and when you want some?

Avatar for sneaks

will the thermos not taint the tea? All the travel mugs I have do - maybe its cos they're metal, not glass inside?

W

That's a good point. I think that all thermos flasks can lead to tea tasting a bit tangy. Not the best idea after all:-(

I've commissioned a woollen mug warmer from my mum - she's coming to stay in 2 weeks so will report back on the effectiveness.

How about one of these: http://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-kug ?

U

Or, alternatively, one of those colour changing mugs. At least then you'll be able to see when the tea's cold and avoid an unpleasant mouthful. (Only if the cosy isn't wholly effective, of course. Which I'm sure it will be. Good ol' Mum :-) )

The music makes me want to buy it. Have star!

Why, thank you kindly! Shame it's not in commercial production yet, eh. Wouldn't mind one myself.
