Hello... Can you cite a conference poster? I've seen conference talks cited, but not posters. Has anyone does this in their thesis/academic paper? Cheers

I cited a poster in my thesis originally, but then the paper came out that the poster related to so in the final version of my thesis I cited the paper. I think it's fine to cite a poster in your thesis, probably not so much a paper.

If abstracts/ posters are published in a journal, then fine. Otherwise, no!

Personally I'd try to email the author of the poster and ask them if they have a paper in the works, that way if you are still a while away from submitting you can cite in you thesis for now "Paper Title in Journal of Whatever forthcoming" and update it once the paper has been published.
