Needs advice on Psychology Masters in the UK!

C

I am currently living in Ireland and just finished my conversion course in psychology (PSI accredited). I am really interested in doing a psychology Masters next year in the UK but literally have no notion as to what Universities have a good reputation. I basically want to go to a reputable University that is not merely impossible to get accepted into. I will be applying for a few Universities but as you can expect this financially adds up...so I basically dont want to apply to Universities that are not overly prestigious and competitive.

Any help would be appreciated :-)

I'm not sure which aspects of psychology you are particular interested in. But i was emailed about funding available for one of the MScs at York, which might be of interest to you:

I believe York has a good reputation for Psychology. But as i'm not in that exact area i'm afraid I don't know much about other universities.

I'm guessing when you say you are "currently living in Ireland" that means you aren't originally from Ireland? That's a pity as I know a number of students from the republic in my masters class which are getting their fees paid for them by their home councils. You could look into these grants though and see if you can still take advantage of them.

Have you had a look at Northern Ireland uni's? They are generally cheaper accommodation and aren't as competitive, but still give you a good quality Masters when you leave.

Here is a link to a Queen's masters, which might be interesting to you:

I don't have any input with regards to reputation, but if you want to search and compare Psychology Masters courses, here's a good place to start:

Good luck in your search!

Thanks for replying. I am actually from Ireland, born and raised here :-) I am just confused because I have looked through loads of forums to see past and current students opinions on courses and Universities in UK but I keep getting mixed reviews. I would just be afraid that I apply to a University, get accepted, and then only a few years down the line when looking for employment, realise that the University does not have a good reputation, and that it looks bad on my CV if anything. On the other hand I know any Universities are competitive in Ireland, but I am not sure if this is the case in the UK. So I obviously dont want to apply to Universities that are merely impossible to get accepted into.

I have thought about NI Unis too...but was under the impression that they are also very competitive course...Perhaps all psychology courses will be overly competitive due to it being such a broad and interesting subject.
