Query about an MD?

F

Hi Guys - Just a quick query - a friend of mine doing medical sciences was asking some advice about doing an MD in the UK. Could someone tell me if do you do this after a PhD or instead of one (if so which is more respected)?

Thanks

A

You need to be a medical doctor to be able to do an MD (Medical Doctorate). I think if your friend is a medical sciences BSc graduate then he/she will only be eligible for the Mphil or PhD route. Clinicians will usually do an MD instead of a PhD but I do know some academic clinicians who have both.
