Thesis Question

D

How many pages is / was your thesis? EXCLUDING references, appendices etc

B

Mine was 209 pages long, double-spaced.

That includes footnotes, but doesn't include the lengthy bibliography, or the appendices.

Thanks, that's good to know as I think mine should be about the same. I hope you don't mind me asking but how many pages was your bibliography?

My thesis was 214 pages double line spaced but an additional 20 pages in roman numerals at the beginning. It amounted to being just under the 40,000 word limit for sciences with 100 ish graphs lol.

Edit: 11 pages of refs single-line spaced (but was a very specialised unpublished field)

Thanks for all the replies. I'm slightly confused. Did some of you do a reference section or a bibliography section, or both?

In-text references in my thesis were in the footnotes throughout the main body of the thesis (the first 209 pages).

The bibliography lists all the secondary sources I referenced and/or used for my PhD. And primary sources (historical documents/records).

D

My thesis required only cited texts to appear in the references list. I did not include any secondary references in accordance with my uni regs. It will be different depending on discipline.

D

Thanks for explaining Bilbo and Dunni73, it makes sense now.

B

Thesis 376 pages 12 point double spacing. References 40 pages (21,000 words!)
