URGENT! citing as 'in press'

S

Hello lovely people,

i was just wandering when it is OK to cite a paper as being 'in press'?

Is when you are in the process of writing it? Is it when it has been sent off and is in the process of being reviewed? Or is it when it has been accepted by the journal and is awaiting to be in the next issue?

Many thanks

H

As far as I understand it, "in press" is a paper that has been accepted for publication. "In preparation" refers to something that is still being written and "in submission" for something that is currently under review.

It may be easier simply to cite it as an 'unpublished paper'?

K

Yeah, I'm pretty sure 'in press' is a paper that has been accepted in its final form for a journal, but hasn't actually been pulished yet. KB
