Postdoctoral Fellowship

C

Hello all,

I am applying for a postdoctoral fellowship. I am currently located at a small institute and our’s is the only team who does genomics here. So my recommenders for the application will likely be also on my mentoring team. Is that bad? I am not sure if that will be a conflict of interest.

Thank you,
Ninad

That's a hard one. What are the funder guidelines on it? I know some funder won't grant funding to do a post-doc in the same institute as you PhD, unless its a really niche area.
When I was applying for funding I used people who wouldn't be mentoring me as recommenders- my mentors taught it would look better.

I think you should consult the funder guidelines. Some funders can be a bit iffy with who can do what but usually you can contact them. Funding bodies can be really helpful and give some very useful advice if you are patient. Though, you can submit it regardless and see what happens.
