hi nateparfait
what I like about our Forum is that we learn something new everyday! Tree has given very useful advice, sorry for the stupid question, but why is it easier for someone from Singapore to get a visa?

I thought getting a student visa from a non-EU country also needs proof of funds, for at least a year, does this mean Singapore citizens don't need to show proof of funds?

If that is so, I think it's great, because Singapore has a good education system and produces exceptional students. I have also heard that some Singapore students are hardworking and high achievers.

Hope you find something that suits you, please keep in touch so that we can congratulate you!

hi gas,
wow where are you thinking of going??? I would love a holiday!

I guess it depends on what kind of person one is -- can you work after a long break??? like start again BOOOM! VROOOM and off you go..

If it were me, I would stick with diving straight in and finish up, so that I can travel with complete peace of mind. At the end of the day, that piece of work is still waiting for me, so I might as well finish it, and then go VROOOM on my holiday.

best of luck!!!

hi nateparfait
welcome to the Forum. I have also seen some people with lesser results on their degree being accepted to do Phds. Research experience is always valuable.

1: It's possible to self-fund but depends on how. Do you already have funds ready at hand, or do you plan to work part-time? Even if you have funds only for the first year, it is quite difficult to carry on a phd and having to work to support yourself.

It is better to secure funding for the whole phd, or masters degree before starting.

If your funding runs out before you finish the phd, at least most of the groundwork would have been covered, and then you go out and look for some paid work, it won't be so bad.

2: This one is entirely up to you, and whichever course you can find. I don't think it is a waste of time.

There is again, the visa hurdle; you need to show proof of funds (or scholarship and acceptance letter) so that you can apply for a visa, I think it's a Tier 4 visa.

What I would do if I don't have any funding is to only apply for phds which offer funding.

hope this helps and best of luck

hi hugh,
one month per chapter is a good idea.

Formatting depends on what you use, I used LaTeX which was helpful because the pages didn't shift and written material didn't mysteriously move (as can happen sometimes with Word), I don't know if it was a month for that. However I had to spend a lot of time learning LaTeX commands so that the thesis could appear as I wanted it (and no mysterious maneuvers upon adding extra material).

The downside of using LaTeX is having supervisors who only want to work with Word.

If you can get your supervisor to check things as you go along, it will save you a lot of complications at the end.

hi Mark_B yes good idea to add the spoiler alert - thanks!
I didn't think Kylo Ren was "serious" enough, he seemed immature and prone to tantrums!
I am still hoping that Han Solo gets rescued by somebody as he fell off the bridge and will just appear in the next star wars!

Makes sense if Rey is Luke Skywalker's daughter, I guess that explains her jedi powers. Has anyone else enjoyed Star wars?

hi badnam, have you contacted an immigration solicitor about this? They have services from applications to making appeals, go for the "high level" ones, they may be able to give you advice on tier 1 etc. Here is a weblink https://www.gov.uk/find-an-immigration-adviser/search-for-an-adviser

good luck

Hi everyone,
I watched Star Wars yesterday, there's nobody I can talk to about this -- so I'm posting it here! I feel like this movie isn't really done very well at all, the storyline seems to be hanging in the air.

I wasn't really happy that Han Solo got stabbed by his son and fell of a bridge. The 3D effects were not that great, possibly because of dark colours in space. I liked Ray, who were her parents?

Princess Leia looked better in her later years, and I thought Chewbaca should at least have some (or a few strands of!) grey or white fur. Another thing, I was disappointed that Luke Skywalker ran away and caused so much pain and destruction because he ran away. What kind of Jedi is that???

Does anyone know if Han Solo is still going to be alive?

sorry I don't know about this, could someone explain to me

why does Google keep asking me to "review key points" of their privacy policy? Are we supposed to click AGREE every time we use google?
