Sponsorship for a conference

B

Hi everybody
I started my PhD in January in Chemistry in the UK. We shall take part in conference that is fortunately in the UK this year. But the fees are high, 300 GBP for each student. So we shall find a sponsorship as it is too much in total for all to pay.
Do you know some sponsors or societies where one could apply for sponsorship for this conference?
Kind regards

Have you not asked your department for support? Normally most depts will offer something towards conference costs, especially if you are taking an active part.

I asked at the postgraduate office but the secretary said she knows nothing about it and the Prof would be wrong about the assumption that she knows something.

If you are research council funded then the roberts fund could be an option; this is a pot of money given to each reseach council university for funding students for conferences etc.

Other than that are you a member of any relevant societies? I got a travel grant to go to Australia for a conference from one society I am student member of. It might be worth looking to see if there are any societies worth joining up to.

Conferences often provide funding for a number of student scholarships - they can sometimes be allocated to students from less affluent countries as a priority but it's definitely worth a look at the website or conference information to see if there's anything on offer.

@Betty: This conference provides only support for countries that are poor. So, I guess I have no chance on this way. Anyway, I was told this would not be possible.
@Tricky: I am sponsored by a UK facility. I am not sure that is research council founded. I doubt that.
No, as I just arrived I am not a member of a society. But I will have a look for that. Thanks.
