Apologies if this is the wrong place, as this is my first post here. I recently applied for a studentship at Notts Trent Uni, I didn't get the studentship but they have offered me a place if I can secure funding for myself. Can I apply to ESRC directly or do I have to apply through the Uni? I have tried speaking to both staff at the Uni and at ESRC but seem to be hitting a brick wall.

Hi Lisa,

You need to apply through university. Whether its ESRC Quota or Open, you need to apply to the recognised outlets (depts). then dept will decide whether your application will be selected for Quota or Open. In case of Quota, the dept is fully responsible to recruit candidates. But in case of Open, the application will be forwarded to ESRC for open competition (ESRC is responsible to recruit candidates).
