Better CV

I'm an EU student who's dreaming of doing a PhD in the UK. As I know competition will be hard I was wondering if there is something I can do to make my CV stick out from the crowd. (I guess getting something published wouldn't hurt, but I don't think that's very likely...) I'm expecting a top degree, but since it's not British I'm afraid it won't make a difference.

Make sure that you do as much lab work as you can during your current degree. As you say, publications are unlikely, but a large amount of laboratory experience will be just as usefull. Good English language skills will also help.
