Luxury brand management studies????

A

Planning to commence at Fall 2009 yet I am having some doubts as to how useful this will be for me!

H

And what would you like us to do about it?

P

I have doubts as to how useful any course requiring background research will be for you....

A

just wanted another opinion as to how usefull it will be! To be honest am only doing it because I enjoy studying.

P

Useful for what?
Useful for becoming a dental nurse? Useful for working for PwC? Useful for learning to drive a car?
Come on, no-one can help you unless you give us more contextual information.......

S

This is going to sound incredibly snobby... but is that a real course!?!?

Alright, I'll put my helpful hat on.

1. Usefulness. I think this course may be of most use to a person who wants to work for a luxury brand. Is this what you want to do?

2. Might it be the case that the kind of insight/experience obtained by such a couse would be better acquired on the job?

3. If you're the sort of person who 'just likes studying' are you ever going to embrace the business world with sufficient enthusiasm to justify studying this particular topic?

4. There's a recession on. How do you think the luxury brand market is fairing at the mo? What would be your job prospects over the next few years be?

A

If you are paying your own way, I say....
Good for you.

If you are state or institution funded (i.e. tax payer), I say...
Get a bloody job.

If your parents are supporting you, I say...
She's grown up now, kick her arse out and tell her to get a bloody job.

Hi, a brief technical question out of curiosity...in your posts, why are all sentences separated by a new line break?

Ok to get the record straight am paying my way through this. Work in the private sector and the company is not planning to fund me at all since it does not really have anything to do with the Luxury sector.

Yes there is a Luxury sector and it is a real MBA concerning this sector.

Furthermore, am also thinking in starting something of my own in the franchise sector!!!

H

I don't doubt the sector exists. What I was questioning was whether this is a good time to be getting into it. And whether you might learn more useful stuff on an internship than paying for a course.

A

To be honest i had taken the decision to do this MBA before the crisis broke, now things are quite weird.

An internship is not so easy here in Greece and the company am working in, the managers are not so keen in educating the staff, they are more worried that their staff will leave them if they educate them, to tell you the truth I am quite disappointed with the company.

The high-end/luxury brand sector certainly does exist (there was a very good BBC business report about it), and it's actually a growth industry.

...but given the financial crisis, it's probably not a good idea to limit your choices to a niche market. Since you're paying for course, you'd be much better doing a standard MBA at a top management school.
