i am thinking of undertaking a doctorate in law (i am now at University College London). My German is reasonable and I understand that doctorates (in law) take less time than in the UK. this might be good considering time constraints and funding - is this true? are the doctorates always written in German or is English possible?

I don't think it will take less time in Germany. But don't take it for grant as I am not studying law. What I am sure of is that the thesis doesn't have to be written in German.
