Has anyone published their lit review from the first year of their PhD??

P

Hi all,
I'm a health professional, 5 months into a FT PhD. I'm writing my lit review, and wondered if anyone has considered or actually published theirs in any journals? My PhD subject is very much under researched in my profession, so wondered if I could try and get it published as a qualitative (i.e not systematic) review /discussion?

Perhaps its too early in my PhD, but it would involve trimming it right down, making it concise and 'punchy'. If it did get published, wouldnt it be 'one in the bag' so to speak??

BTW my profession is quite small (4500), not a great deal of research is done, plus the main professional journal isn't an especially high standard...yet

Cheers (22 degrees in London today8-) ),-)

Hey Phdee! Yeah, I published my literature review and it was so long that I actually had to split it into two papers (both papers are 10,000 words!) and now I have also submitted the other one for publication too. One part of mine was published as a systematic review and the other part I have submitted is more a theoretical discussion than a systematic review. I think it's a great idea, it's good to get publications under your belt and also great to get feedback from reviewers about your conclusions and possible future directions on which your research will be based. I wouldn't worry too much about how 'high standard' the journal is at this stage- I was very lucky with my first paper and got it into a really good journal, but the second part has gone to a much less prestigious journal, basically because I want to get it to the right audience and the journal is appropriate in that sense, but also because I am also less confident about it than I was about the first one! Definitely, go for it! Good luck, KB

I had my lit review published within the first 6 months of my PhD. Mine is also a very under-researched area, and my lit review was the beginning article in a special edition of a journal which tried to encapsulate articles about similar topics to mine.

I'd say definitely go for it ! It's never too early to start getting published!

How exactly do you publish your review unless it is invited?
How do you pick the right journal?
Or do you just submit it and hope for the best like you do with papers?
