Dear forumers, it is alright to present a paper that has been published at a conference and what are the implications if any?

At the time that I submitted the abstract for the conference, the paper was not published. It has since been published and has also been accepted for an upcoming conference. Would there be any bridge of copy right should the conference decide to publish the conference precedings.

Hey Mamara! As far as I know, it's fine to present a paper that has been published- I have done so myself previously and about to do so again next month. I'm not sure about the issue with publishing conference proceedings- usually they would just publish the conference abstract, which has most likely been modified from the one on the published paper anyway, so I don't think this would be a problem. Hi Mamara. I agree with Keenbean, I don't think that presenting a published paper is a problem, but it might be a problem to publish it in the conference proceedings.

Some Publishers have strict rules about re-publishing articles - I edited a volume of conference papers and one contributor could not insert her paper because this was already published elsewhere. That Publisher forbid re-publication before the period of two years. So you should ask your Publisher before you agree to re-publish your paper in another volume. It might be enough to re-elaborate your paper or to acknowledge that it draws from an earlier article etc, but it is always better to check.

Thanks for the replies. To Dr. Corine and KB you have both addressed my fears. It is my fist paper and conference presentation as well and I would want to do it the right way.
