Supervision

M

Hello,

I am a MSc student in development studies....I am looking for an "outside" supervisor because of problems with my own and I cannot switch (according to my director of studies). Since my degree is interdisciplinary, I am open to any background...please let me know if anyone is interested....

Im eager, self-motivated, resourceful, and intelligent....

I would advise against this. Your current supervisor is the one who will mark the project, so there is little point going against his/her advice and seeking others'.

If he/she is giving you little/no support then I'd ask for a meeting to clarify what/how you mean to progress. If there is still no luck then I'd talk to your student support function and they can help you. Your uni should also have some kind of student help in how to write a final year project etc and they should be able to guide you too.

Nothing at the university....academic writing center is closed for the summer. I was told that a board reads our dissertations, not supervisors. Undergraduate supervisors read undergraduate dissertations. If what you are saying is true, I'm screwed!!!! I am going to double check everything. All I know is, to get anything done, you have to pull teeth. Supervisor never checks up on me, how would she read my dissertation...seems awkward. I'll keep looking for outside help...I've been doing everything on my own with no guidance since the beginning. I educated myself! And paid money for it too!

I've supervised masters dissertations in two unis, and at both the supervisor 1st marks and then its moderated by a 2nd marker. I'd check this before proceeding. You're probably better off asking to look at examples of past dissertations that have received good marks to understand what is expected and maybe ask a teacher/lecturer you prefer at your university to read a draft.

I've double checked...dissertations in my department and course are "blind-double marked". Therefore, supervisor does not mark the dissertation at MY university.
