Confused: British & American English

S

Friends, I am now doing my final corrections before submission. I have used British English throughout the thesis but I am now confused with the quote using American English. Should I leave it as it is? It looks bit odd but no idea whether I am allowed to change the American spellings in quotes to British ones. Please suggest ! Swetch

I had the same problem and my supervisor advised me that in quotes I should not change the spelling. Even if it is wrong.

Thank you for your reply Emmaki. I would also do the same. A language teaching staff in Uni also suggested the same. I am much assured now. Thanks:-)

I agree with Emmaki Swetchha, if it's a quote, then I'd leave it as it is. If there's something grammatically incorrect you can add '[sic]' afterwards but if it's just the spelling, then no need to change or add anything.

S

Thank you so much for your response, Skig. Yes, I am going to leave spellings in the quotes as in original. :-)

The other posters are right, do not change anything in a quote and you can quote me on this!
