1GB usage question

S

hi there, could somebody give me some advice please. I am not tech savvy enough :-)

I have just upgraded my phone package and I'm not sure about 1GB of broadband usage.

How many youtube videos can I watch on 1 GB?
When people say stream movies in your phone, are they talking about using youtube on the phone?

Also, if I use wifi on the phone (and turn off Mobile Data) does that mean that I have not used that 1GB?

Another thing I'm not sure is if we have for example, an iPhone and both mobile data and wifi is switched on, does the phone look for wifi first? or mobile data?

thanks very much

I'm not sure on the first two questions regarding you tube and 1GB, but I have 500MB of data on my mobile package and I never use that. I don't watch many you tube clips though, maybe 5 a month at most.

On my phone (iphone) it always looks for wifi first and will use that instead of using mobile data if it can. Can be annoying as sometimes it taps onto wifi signals that I don't actually have access to (BT Openzone being one example) so I do sometimes have to swtich wifi off when out and about.

It's hard to give a full answer on what and how much you can do with 1GB data. Most phones have a 500mb limit (half of 1 GB) so you have more than most people. However, i wouldn't advise going mad with things like streaming video etc as it will eat up your allowance. If you are using it for email, Facebook, surfing then you have more than enough but just keep your streaming down. There are free apps to monitor your usage so you can get an idea of where you are with your usage if you think you've used a lot.

With regards to Wifi, that's different and doesnt use any of your mobile data - if you have wifi at home/work then get the passcode as most phones default to wifi where possible and this will stop you using all your mobile data too.

hi adam and catalinbond
yes, come to think of it, most likely I won't be exceeding that 1GB. I think I will only actually browse on my phone when I'm outside in a waiting room in a hospital or something, or waiting to go somewhere or maybe if I get stuck in a traffic jam :-)

I also just found another package with "All you can eat data" but I'm not sure what that is.
Anyway its too late for that since I already signed up with orange.

thanks for your replies :-)
