Hi everyone,

I had submitted an article to a journal last year and after emailing them in August received a response from them (after 8 months) in which they requested some minor revisions and stated that my article would not need to go through the peer review process again and that if the revisions would be completed by October, they would include my article in their forthcoming issue next year. Well, I submitted my article well ahead of the deadline i.e. around the third week of September and the editor assured me that I would hear from them in a week or two. It's now been over a month and though I emailed them 10 days before, I still have not heard from them. I am wondering what I should do next. Should I email them back once more? Or should I wait? How long should I wait? I am getting concerned that perhaps they have changed their minds and frankly this is driving me crazy! Any advice on the next best course of action would be appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for pushing my post to the top, Reenie :). Apparently no one has any advice for me so far though (:() so I went ahead and emailed the editor once more, but I have still not received any response from them so am not sure what to think.

i would say.. an interval of two weeks between communications is reasonable. but make sure you don't look desperate - like they are your only option. be indirect. say that you are really excited about their next issue and you are wondering whether being a contributor you will get any copies ;).

obviously if they have changed their mind they will tell you at this point.

i submitted one in June and have heard nothing tangible from them yet. i wrote and asked for an update as i was considering withdrawing my submission. hopefully that'll jolt them to action. worst case scenario, i'll submit elsewhere to a more time conscious journal.

I resubmitted a revised article at the end of July - still heard nothing so gave them a very polite reminder the other work and they replied that still waiting final approval from the editors.

The whole process has taken 10 months so far - pretty unacceptable in my opinion. The systems needs serious re-organisation.

Dr. J ( ;-) ), did you highlight to the journal that you were considering withdrawing your submission? Is it advisable to state that so that it may prompt the editors to respond? I have been debating on that issue since I am not sure whether that is the right way to get them to respond.

HaloChanter, I submitted my article last December and the revised one this September. I am not sure how much longer I can wait in order for them to decide whether they want to publish it or have changed their minds. Frankly, i am very frustrated at them especially because they specified that the revisions were not major and would not need to go through the review process again.

So I am now thinking of emailing the editor and asking them to let me know whether or not they are still interested in my revised article and if not, to kindly inform me of this, so that I can proceed with submitting my article to another journal. Is that appropriate? I had last emailed them on 23rd October.
