Can anyone help with my query?

I want to apply for a studentship for a PhD Social Sciences. Are you allowed to apply to more than one institution to get a chance of getting funding? Eg. apply for one DTC South East and another in South West. Or to two institutions in a DTC. Or even to 4 or 5 institutions and see if you get offered funding from any of them, if you had more than one offer could choose where to go?

Is it advisable to be contacting and preparing with different supervisors and so?

Any advice on this would be fab, I'm hoping to get full funding somewhere for 2015 entry.

I would think you can apply to as many as you like - can anyone with experience offer advice?
