PhD In UK

T

Hello All

I am a new PhD student at a UK university having arrived from my country Pakistan and started previous fall 2013. This is a new experience for me and so far, this has been quite good. I have found the people here to be very nice and cooperative with a few exceptions which do exist everywhere. I also try to reciprocate in the same way, my shortcomings notwithstanding.

I am married and trying to cope with PhD along with my family life. I hope this forum would be a help in achieving my goal.

Thank you!

TheReal, welcome on board. Best wishes with your studies and 'am sure you'll find this site helpful. many of us do and still hang around here to support each other even after completing our PhDs.

Welcome The Real; as patseya says some of us (like me) have finished the PhD but we do visit the forum and contribute as much as we can!

T

Patseya and incognito.

Thanks for your replies.

This forum is a bit of help when you are doing phd and research, but isn't it a sort of distraction as well?

Yes, a welcome one :)

Yes, TreeofLife, a bit true. Here you get to know many people doing what you are doing i.e. phd and research :) That's then a plus point for this forum.

T

Satchi, TreeofLife, Folks. I appreciate your replies. Would try to keep a good balance and not get distracted with useless discussions on this forum. So many thanks again for your help and comments.

Hello, hello! How many people actually post here? Excluding owner of the forum, business partners and employees. IF it is greater then 10, I will be pleased to continue and post ere. Else, my time is precious.

T

I don't know the actual number. There are maybe 20 regular posters and many others that don't contribute as regularly but what they have to say is very worthwhile when they do post.

There are also many irregular posters who just post a question or two and these obviously are what keep this forum alive.

I think it's great because there are people from all stages of the academic journey and a variety of disciplines.

PS @TheReal - just because discussions are distractions does not make them useless. I learn a lot from reading/posting on this forum, even if such learnings are not related to my research.

Hello TreeofLife

You may be right. I may be coming here again for people like you.

@dicksson
Once I actually came across a place where this was actually the case :).
