I am a Bachelor of Science student, Chemistry, almost graduated. I sadly slacked off far too much, and am probably ending up getting a 2:2, just a few points away from a 2:1.

As a dutch student, it means I need to get a grade between 7-8. Sadly, I probably will end up with a 6.8.

At the present time I am way more motivated now, than I was before. I now actually have a goal and know what I want to do with my studies.
But first I am planning on working a few years before trying to get into a master's course (with the money problem and all). Will this have any effect that I have work experience?

The master course I want to get in is: Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh.

But my question, is it possible to get into a 2:1 grade course, with a 2:2?

Your work experience probably won't make much difference for getting on to a MSc course, unless it's in a related field.

It is possible to be accepted even if you don't meet the minimum criteria, particularly if you are self-funded, you have only missed it by a bit, and they don't have too many applicants.

You could email the admissions dept and ask.

The work will be related it is in a chemistry field. And probably pharmaceutical.

I disagree, I think work experience can help you overcome the barrier that you don't quite have the grade requirements. In my experience universities are more flexible with entry onto postgraduate courses and assess applications on their merits. It is a key source of funding for universities and so if they can justify giving someone a place they will do. Focus on the positives in your application and convince them you have lots to offer.
