Applying for jobs while still doing my PhD

L

This is my first post on this forum and I think it is the most appropriate place to share my thoughts/worries.

I'm currently on my first year of my engineering phd. Even though the subject is quite interesting, I do not see myself continuing in this area after I finish and to be honest I would much rather continue in an industrial settlement rather than academic. I'm mostly interested in pursuing a career in consulting.

If a good job opportunity would come up I would be more than willing to quit the PhD and get the job. The thing is I am not sure how that will look when applying for a position I am interested in. Should I state on my Cover Letter/CV that i'm willing to give up my PhD if I'm offered the position? Can I use this time spent on my PhD as some form of research experience?

Has anyone here left his PhD for a job? If yes are there any tips/advises?

Thank you

D

Having a PhD would be beneficial in pursuing a consultancy career, so don't quit your PhD just yet.

Especially for engineering, there is an option for an EngD, where research from the PhD is linked to an industrial application. Candidates are expecting to spend 3 days in the office and 2 days in the uni (or similar arrangement). I am not sure if you can switch now, but I suspect this would suit you better.

The reason I am asking is that there is a job opening that came up which I am really interested in. You could say that this is a dream job for me and I have to go for it.

My question is how do I phrase it on my cover letter that i'm willing to stop my phd for this job? any ideas?
