viva after one month

E

Hello all,

My viva is in the end of April. I still have time for preparation but I am totally lost. I don't know where to start. Another problem, the thesis is in English but English is not my mother tongue. I am afraid of speaking in English. What should I do to improve my speaking skills??

There is some good advice on preparing for the viva on the last page of the Accountability partners thread in this forum. If you don't already have a list of possible questions, I can send you some, but you need to bear in mind that your examiners may ask completely different questions. As for speaking in English, if I were you, I would practise as much as possible. Get friends to do mock vivas, and if you run out of friends just talk to yourself. English is my first language but I lack confidence talking about my work so that's what I will be doing before my viva.

Many thanks Alisling for your advice. In fact I'm living in french speaking country. However, English is not the mother tongue of the members of the jury. Some of them are German others are French. This may help.

My supervisor told me to prepare some snacks and wine to celebrate with the jurey and the audience after the viva. what kind of snacks should I prepare?

Hi Emma
I think you should search questions as many as you can so that you can prepare well for your viva, and for English you should practice with your friends so that you can speak in english in front of jurey.

Thanks proofreadmyfile for your reply.
I cannot read my thesis, it is a punishment. I don't have motivation to prepare for the viva. I waste my time playing with my twins or on facebook. :(
