Transfer Phd to another institution in the UK?

G

It will sound bizarre but my PHD thesis has already been examined and I have receive R& R outcome. I did not appeal and decided to work on the corrections. However, my supervisors are still giving me a hard time, I am getting Impatient and think that maybe this institution might not be best for for me after all. How can I transfer to another institute at this stage? How to convince another department or institute why I need to transfer and argue for no further fees as at this stage, I have no means to pay fees at all. I dont Mind considering Europe as well of that is where the best fit is. I will drop out of this uni and just walk with whatever they give me. I am tired of arguing with the supervisors and fear that they might make it much worst if I said ito them that at this stage I am only rewriting for my examiners and not for them. If the supervisors had understood what my research was originally, surely I would not have landed with R & R outcome. That said, I have almost entirely worked in the revisions as suggested by the examiners and feel that the supervisors are just continuously looking down upon me when they are the ones who bought this outcome upon me. I feel outraged and even before I resubmit, I want to prove to myself that I can do without them and walk out of this situatin whenever I want to. Thanks for reading.

I'm pretty sure you can't transfer at this stage, certainly not without paying fees.

When my supervisor moved 500 miles away halfway through my PhD I looked at transferring to his institution. And I discovered there are rules about how much of a PhD needs to be done at an institution. Which stopped me transferring. I'd already done too much at my local one for the new one to take it on. And I wasn't nearly as far through as you.

Even if you did transfer the new institution would expect to get fees. They're not going to give you something for nothing.

I know you are upset, but you are so far through now. As you say you have almost finished the revisions. If you're not happy with your supervisors then stop seeing them. Finish your revisions, and submit them to the examiners yourself.

Yes you can walk away from the institution, but not to get a PhD elsewhere, without starting all over again, including paying those fees.

JUST FINISH THE DRATTED THING!

Bilbo is absolutely correct. A transfer isn't going to be viable. Swallow your pride and anger for now and just do the corrections and get the degree. You don't need to have anything to do with academics / universities etc after that, but it would be a waste of years of hard work to walk out now.

I transferred half way through my second year. Me and my supervisors had an amicable falling out. Whilst we left on good terms we had become too diametrically opposed to function as a team any more.

I love my new institution and it was totally worth it.

However it took ages (7 months) and I think it caused me more stress than the PhD did at any given point.

can you write about the procedure ? I mean what did you say about the reason for transfer ? Did you have to do your 2nd year all over again ? I am terribly depressed with the racist attitude of my supervisor and can't take it any more. I have just started my 2nd year PhD. Please write about your experience. Thanks. .
