some help in job application please

S

hi everyone I'm job-hunting (again!)
I just saw an advert for an RA position, which this --

5 years relevant research experience normally including 1/2 years postdoctoral experience in a related field.

My question is -- 'five years relevant research experience' -- does this include my phd research?

So if I finished in 2013, and then only had one year work experience, would I still be able to apply??

thanks

RA = assistant or associate?

Yes, I'd say your PhD counted, and even though your total adds up to 4 years, I'd apply, through be aware that I might be ruled out on that technicality.

Is this in the UK? I thought that these days they weren't allowed to ask for X years of experience as it basically is an indirect means of age discrimination (i.e. if you have all the relevant skills and experience acquired in 4 years rather than 5 then you should be eligible).

hi HazyJane thank you so much for your message! How are you doing?

RA = associate, yes this is in the UK.

These past few months I have been feeling a lost of self-confidence over jobs, but I am getting over this! I will do something (about making another application) today, really need to move forward.

I have a good friend who keeps telling me to open a take-out *LOL*, in truth, I don't know what I want to do exactly, all I know is I need a job to survive.

thanks again

I would apply anyway, and yes your PhD counts as relevant years. Good luck!
