I'm having a bit of a freak out. It's my viva on Monday I just reread my introduction and there are holes and issues and gaps, and I'm worried... I think the main chapters are better, but I'm still a bit panicked. Did this happen to anyone else on rereading?

I just don't feel very much like an expert! But I guess I am... the main chapters that I'm reading through today are much better, so I'm feeling a bit less scared today :) Thanks for the encouragement

I think it is normal or at least usual!
When I was preparing fro my viva and I read the introductory chapter I thought it had nothing to do with the rest of the viva! It felt like it was for a different research!
At the viva I was not asked any questions about the introduction and the only questions I got were about research ethics and some clarifications for the national context of the research. I got away with very minor corrections

Don't worry I think that's normal! I had my viva just before Christmas and found so many typos I was so panicked. At my viva no one even mentioned my introduction apart from - it seems you have read the relevant literature and they just said they would ignore the typos as they had seen I had found them myself. Although that was because they had some concerns about other chapters they wanted to spend a long time talking about haha!

Caro - what sort of things did they have concerns about, if you don't mind me asking? How much detail did they go into?

I think it's healthy that you can spot where improvements can be made. It is also common to be able spot issues more easily when you return to a piece of writing (or other creation) after a while - hence the term "desk time". Thankfully, the thesis doesn't have to be perfect, otherwise none of us would pass!
