Hi.
I am a prospective PhD student looking to fund my studies as a GTA. One GTA position I have seen is 17.5hrs a week. I am also the mother of a 6 year old child. What are people's experiences of trying to combine a full time PhD, GTA and look after a child?
My partner has some flexibility in working hours, although is in a full time job. Would be grateful for any advice, thanks!

I'm assuming you are in the US; most people on here are from the UK.

I know a couple of people who had 20 hour GTA positions - they still had to work 40 hours a week on their PhD on top of this, so obviously with a child it's going to be very difficult.

Having said that, you wouldn't be the first person to do this, so if you want to do it, I'm sure you can.
