Career after M.Sc.

D

I am pursuing M.Sc.
what will be good after this - Job or PhD?

T

That depends on what you want to do in the future career-wise or how much you just want to do a PhD. What are your plans?

Honestly I found what was around dictated my career direction more than what I intended. I always knew I wanted to take on a PhD (in my area its generally required at some point) but when I first finished my masters there were no PhD's that caught my eye and a really good job opportunity came up. Two years later I have some strong experience in a specialised field and my former work place helped me to fund and create a PhD position which I am now undertaking. Keep an open mind and see what chances come your way is my advice!

I accepted one of the phds I'd applied to once I'd finished my MSc. I would have preferred to work in industry at the time but couldn't find a lot of well paid jobs that didn't involve moving to the other side of my country. My phd is in a field of research that is expanding and that opens up wider job prospects for me.

These are things you have to consider once you start and complete your MSc. Have an idea of where you want to end up, and try and do the preparation for that now with your MSc and then more extensively with a phd if you want.

I'm happy with where I've ended up but I honestly wish I'd planned a little better earlier on in my education. Good luck!
