Honeymoon destinations - help H....

H

Well have about 10 months to go but totally stuck....there is just too much to choose from I guess!

Would prefer somewhere warm (although Iceland hasn't been totally ruled out), somewhere I haven't been before, somewhere with a beach but also lots of historical/interesting things to see.

Suggestions please!

History and beaches?

Greece
Indonesia

spring immediately to mind.

H

H - we went to Egypt in May. Not for a honeymoon, but I can definitely say it is a romantic place, there are pools and beaches, cruise on the Nile and visit the pyramids, temples and Valley of the Kings. What do you think?

H

hillyg, it is something I thought of but I have actually been to Egypt, Would defiantely go again as I loved it! Need to spend a few months there to see everything

H

Indonesia would be good.

I was also thinking Maldives, seeing as everyone keeps saying it's gonna get flooded totally and then maybe move onto Sri Lanka.

H

Ah have been there - cool - you will know what I mean then. My friends went to Canada for their honeymoon. Said it was amazing. Spent time in Toronto, then went to Niagra and the on to some of the smaller lakes - really romantic. Honeymoons - I would probably go for somewhere like Tahiti - although this big money - but you can go to places like bora bora i think...I am a geographer I should know. Probably cheap when you get there. Or Hawaii...interesting again.

H

Maldives...very nice

H

hmmm Tahiti! Sounds great! I wont be paying for it though

H

How many hours would it take to fly there? I'm not a good flyer, the longest I have done is 16 hours and that was hell!

H

Not sure...imagine 21 hours or something. could fly via LA and break the trip. Right I am off into town to post off my "intention to submit" forms...SCARY or what! Have fun looking through the holiday websites. "elegant hotels" is a good one!

Have you been on the www.hitched.co.uk forum?

Fab for wedding planning advice!

India?

You can fly to Mumbai for £299 ret. Not sure whether there are nice beaches there, but there certainly are in Goa, a region with a lot more history and things to see than many people realise.

Ed - I loved Goa. Went there a few years ago with my bessie mate & had a hilarious time.
Ultimate romantic cheap holiday location is Thailand. Forget Koh Samui, Phi Phi and all those places too touristy and over priced these days- Have a few days in BKK -Jim Thompson's house (awesome), Wat Po, Chutuchuck market at the weekend, floating market, river kwai & then go East right by the Cambodian boarder in the Koh Chang Marine park and relax on lonely beach, eat seafood BBQ and chill out on the cushions listening to the ocean and bizarrely baleric chillout.
