Hi - resident newbie here, I have decided to take the leap and try to do a Phd. I am currently looking to apply for funding from the AHRCm ERSPC but are there anymore out there.

It is something I really want to do - but at the moment I am finding it sooo overwhelming and daunting.

Any takers?

I have located 3 unis that i have my eye on.

I don't want to sound doomy, but communications is not a popular subject with the research councils in the open competitions & sits somewhere between the ESRC & AHRC and as you can only apply to one, you have to be very careful which & get some sound advice from your supervisor. Try and look for uni's which already have the funding in place, or have had a good success rate in the opens. This is unless you're doing a blue skies project, but again it depends what specific area of communications you are looking to go into though.

Thanks for that - it does seem a bit gloomy. I did not realise that if you apllied to AHRC you could not apply to ESPR (you know the one that I speaking about).
