Doing a Phd in Australia or South Africa

G

I am a UK home student just finished my degree in Molecular Biology. I want to a phd in Australia, but wonder if there is any means of funding from the UK, and how to go about it?

JASON is a search engine that contains information about postgraduate scholarships for Australian students wishing to study at home or abroad, and for international students wishing to study in Australia.

Full scholarships are available through the Commonwealth Scholarship Plan, for Commonwealth students to enable them to study in other Commonwealth countries. Grants are for one to three years and usually cover the cost of travel, tuition fees and living expenses. It is likely that the scheme is aimed more at students from developing nations, but have a look you may qualify.

Have a look for the Northcote Graduate Scholarships on the King's College London Website. I am currently doing a UK student doing a PhD in physiology in Australia and went through just about every funding/bursary advert around! Have a thorough search through JASON (as listed above) and apply for EVERYTHING. Good luck.

Same as UK student, but I want to study in South Africa. Is there anything like 'Jason' for that?

Your best bet is probably the Association of Commonwealth Universities. However, relative to the UK, South Africa is a not a wealthy country and money for education tends to be directed towards South Africans. The South African Department of Education maintains a spreadsheet of funding opportunities which you can access via this link.

University Scholarships for South African Students, Inc. is a small non-profit organization, endorsed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, that gives scholarships to deserving Black students attending universities and technikons in South Africa. Students seeking scholarships, and individuals interested in assisting their effort, can visit our site and learn more about them.
