Seeking a Master course with a third-class degree

K

I've got a third-class degree in a maths and stats degree. However, most of the master courses required a lower second for a minimum. Is there any way for me to find a master course?

I

Have you tried e-mailing the admissions tutor for the course you are interested in?
I was in a similar position, I havea 2:2. and they said they would consider me.

K

Can I do this? Because most of the master course required 2:1. I thought it is too far for me to ask for a course, isn't it?

I

Well, you won't know until you try will you?
How much do you want to do an MA?
The key is to sell yourself to the admissions tutor.

Thanks, I will send emails to them today.

which uni did you goto ?

if you went to a decent uni, the vast majority of masters will accept a third if the min requiremnts are 2:2

a very good tip for you though, is to speak to the admissions tutor before applying, as it doesnt create a good impression if they think you havnt read the entrance requiremnts! it also a good oppurtunity to sell yourself for when they consider your application.

if its any help, i got a third, and am on a funded (yes funded!!) stat masters

L

oh nearly forgot, the min requirements for my course were 2:2 aswell

K

I went to york for my undergraduate. Which level of universities will required 2:2 for a master course?
Also, can you tell me which uni are you in?

L

i'm at salford, the course is operational research and applied stats, i got a third from imperial, a girl on the course got a third from york. the min requirements are 2:2.

hope this helps

Maybe you can do a postgrad certificate and then do a masters?

Hi
I am a journalist writing a piece for a national newspaper giving advice to graduates who didn't achieve the degree classification they were hoping for. I'm trying to find some examples of people who got a 3rd (or a 2:2 when they needed a 2:1) but still managed to get onto a postgraduate programme.
If anyone is able to help, could they please contact me via the forum admin. It would involve a short phone chat about your experience and what advice you would give to others in the same situation.
Many thanks
