Hi,
I'm not sure what they mean by a "letter of Application", Perhaps contacting a possible supervisor at the university would help? When I applied I submitted a cover letter which was a page long and conveyed why I want to do a PhD a brief history of my research background and why I feel it will benefit my career and knowledge. This was accompanied by my BSc and MSc certificates along with professional qualification certificates and an academic C.V. which showed previous teaching experience and publications. But I would strongly recommend to contact a potential supervisor who could give you more information, or search the university research school website.
Sorry I couldn't help much. Hope you get sorted.
Best.
Hi,
When I was getting ready to submit my proposal the potential supervisors did ask to meet and discuss the study, this was primarily to see how passionate and motivated you are for the study (almost like a pre-screening). I would recommend that you prepare something to take with you to your meeting, along the lines of why you want to research this topic, a possible methodology, your previous experiences with the topic and why you're choosing to study at that particular university. The potential supervisor will also want to see if your personalities match, if he/she thinks you're not motivated enough for they study they won't help you as much with the proposal. So be keen and prepared but don't get nervous and be yourself.
Hope this helps.
All the best.
Hi Rose, the PhD I applied for was with studentship so wasn't a preset research topic, but from what I hear it depends on the university and the funding body. Give it until the end of the week, if you don't hear back drop them or your potential supervisor a quick email.
Hi, I've heard that about Manchester before but was advised that they do look into the research methods etc that you used for your MSc research, and the interview is usually a big part of the application as it determines if you'll fit in with the faculty. Hope this helps.
hi,
I'm in the same situation but with a different university, my interview was on the 8th March and I was given a time frame of 3-4 weeks but have not yet heard back. I'm not sure what to make of it or if I should email and ask, but I think it mite seem a bit intrusive. Surely, they'll let me know either way?
