Careful Labmonkey. Apparently on the forum unless you find your PhD some sort of 3-4 year torture other members just aren't interested. Enjoy doing a PhD ..pah!!
I found that I really enjoy my PhD when I'm progressing and getting data which will contribute to my thesis and makes me feel that I'm achieiving. This is obviously not all the time, in fact quite rarely. Moreover, it has turned out that this didn't really happen at all in the first 7 months of my project.
Rose tinted glasses? Apparently you didn't enjoy the job as much as you thought as you left it to do a PhD for some reason.
I had a friend with whom I was at university and his father was involved in recruitment. He was told, by his father, to go to a uni at the top of the tables. His father's reasoning was that as a man involved in filing through CVs for jobs he would just look at the Times top 10 and anyone not from one of those unis went to the bottom of the pile. Take from that what you will...... That may not be totally representative of all employers but I'm sure a large portion do work like that.
No, I don't do any work as my stipend is plenty for me to live on. This is strange guys, a few months ago I got an ear-bashing on a thread because I suggested that it is possible to proceed at a fair pace doing 9-5, i.e. a normal 40 hour week, obviously from time to time you'll run late or have to pop in the odd weekend. According to the quite rude people on that thread I didn't have a clue what I was talking about as I wasn't doing a 60+ hour week. Good to see I'm not the only one who isn't mental witht the hours.
