Update!
Hi..so I told my supervisor I definitely want to leave! So now 'leaving is in progress'. The good thing is I can apparently write up what I've done in the past year and leave with a MPhil..so I'll have something to show for my years work. And then I'm free! woo hoo!
Thanks for all your messages of support! And good luck with whatever your doing x

Quitting PhD. A good idea?

Hey guys, thanks for the words of encouragement :) I told my supervisor I wanted to leave and we had a very long chat. He told it was normal to feel like this in the 1st yr and gave me 2 weeks to 'think about it'. I've spoken to various people about me leaving, but I just feel like they think I'm being 'silly'. I've got until Friday to tell my boss either way, but I feel like I should stay so that I don't disappoint anyone. I really want to leave! My boss also said he said it would be great for my CV! ( like I didn't know that) and would be good for furthering my career later.Has anyone or does anyone know of someone who has quit their PhD who's had negative consequences finding jobs afterwards ??

Hi guys,
I've been thinking of leave my Phd for a couple of months now, and now I've made my decision to leave. I was worried about talking to my supervisor because he's been really good throughtout these past 8 months and I didn't want to disappoint him, but what you guys have said has made me more confident in going through with it. After all I don't want to be unhappy for the next 2 years...life is too short.

PhD interview - presentations??
B

Just found out that I have to prepare a presentation to a funding agency, for example the Medical Research Council (MRC), requesting support for a project of my choice. The presentation has to include background, relevance to medicine, aims, methods including how my research background supports this application, and how I will tackle any problems that arise. Its 7 min long.
Any ideas???
Help!!!

i've just asked and been told the I 'will prepare and present a talk at the interview.' They'll give me the details of the subject of the talk and length of presentation with the official invitation.

I've just been shortlisted for an interview for PhD, which is great!, but they've told me that it will consist of a 'presentation section'. Does anyone know what this involves? Has anyone had to do something similar?
Thanks for your help!! :)
