Job search: course designing
B

Guys,

So the bleak period of job searches (bleaker for international folk, but am ready to relocate anywhere in Europe or the States) has begun. Many placed ask for sample course designs. I was wondering if you guys had any insights on these questions -

1. If not specified, and merely asked to design courses you would be 'willing to teach' would you design something for a course they already have (a bit silly) or suggest a new course?

2. How would you go about it? Would you look at existing similar courses in other unis and design something on those lines?

3. How detailed would you get?

Many thanks!!

A doctor once laughed at my erect willy. It's a bit of a stand up comedian!

Get the SH*T out of here.

KB - oh you poor dear, but this is abusive behaviour! He was abusing his position of some kind of power and I absolutely think you need to complain. NO - not necessarily in anticipation of any immediate outcomes, but this is something which you need to send to authorities higher than him and somehwere somebody shall take note. And if there already have been complaints then you are likely to be believed. I'd be inclined to take a gendered take on this too...

Best, and chin up, you're very sweet and did nothing to deserve this!!

best scammers come from Africa
B

Quote From Baltar:

What is exactly the motivation behind this post??? To allege that "the most prolific scammers" happen to be African? But that's just one kind of scam; in fact, one kind of Internet scam. I can name 5 other types of Internet scams off the top of my head that cannot be boxed into cliches like the one you just mentioned - try websites falsely pretending to be you bank. Can you put a nationality, or colour on this, let alone claim that it is peculiar to the people belonging to one continent?! As for cliches, lets see how well they work, let alone how accurate or informative they can be: "most scammers are Africans" or "most red-necks are Americans", "most neo-Nazi are Germans", "...football hooligans are British", "...racists are Caucasian", etc. The issue of inaccuracy aside, these cliches are more dangerous than helpful or useful in any way. It's not like the above statement, even if it were a fact, has suddenly armed me with a revelation that will prevent me falling prey to Internet scam. The only thing that will, is some good luck and a little more caution and the exercise of forethought.

Yep. Struck me as problematic too, on many levels, but didn't have the time to type in!

Submitted full first draft

Thanks you guys :-)

Submitted full first draft

Cannot believe am writing these words - but just submitted my full first draft.

9 chapters, all 8 to 9 K words each.

Yes, very rough, very quick, very flawed, but a draft right?

It's been a crazy 2 years 2 months of a PhD life - FT phd, 3 and at one time 4 jobs which had crazy European meetings sometimes 3 times a month.

And no money for all this money went to pay international fees.

It feels unreal.

So unreal. It's 3 am, perhaps I should sleep.

Just feeling really dreadful and exhausted

Have PMed you hun :-)

Relationship with supervisor
B

Totally depends on the supervisor. And the supervisee. Am very close to mine, totally respect her, and have grown to share lots of silly thoughts and stuff (she recently called it my gibber gabber) in addition to intellectual seriousness. And yes, send her nice quotes or stuff and she sometimes sends too, and pics of her kittens.

Should add - she is an international superduper star in my field, but v v v v approachable and friendly.

:-)
