Hey Eska!
I can't believe you complained! You were the winner!
Well, not anymore you're not. Anyone who complains about winning the title shouldn't have it. So, I believe this makes ME the winner again. Ha Ha Ha!!
Ohhhhh the success... 8-)

How interactive is this forum?
C

Don't forget though that although there are some people on here that don't reply to say thanks, etc, having replies from experienced postgrads really helps those who perhaps visit the site often, but don't have the courage to get involved in the conversation.
Saying that, I would also love it if the forum was a lot more interactive - it's really reassuring to know that others are just as addicted to the site! I'm quite new to it, but since discovering this site I haven't been able to leave it alone! :-)

just a little niggle...

Hi Guys,
thanks to everyone who shared their experiences with funding issues. It's a relief to know that there are a lot of people who fund themselves through their Masters. I just had that horrible feeling that I was missing out on something that everyone else was getting - a silly feeling really, but you know what it's like. I suppose it's quite a good incentive too to work a bit harder if I'm paying for it myself.
Thanks again x

What subject is it in?

What makes you happy?

The fresh smell of autumn, with all of its warm colours and that brand new feeling that something wonderful and new is going to happen.
Sleeping cuddled up naked against the warm body of someone you love and trust beside you, knowing they feel the same.
Standing in a field watching the details of nature, from the tiny bug making its way through its own little world, to the colours the sun makes in the sky when it is setting.
That feeling you get when the clouds dramatically quilt the sky with all their light and deep shadow and you know that you exist; you are real and part of it all.

relationship breakdown. :-(
C

It could have been worse. He could have been dishonest with you and not told you how he felt. It might have been bad for both of you if you were living with a relationship that was just a lie. I know that it feels like it couldn't have happened at a worse time, but put it this way, you now have the last 10 months of your phd with loads of freedom and only yourself to have to think about. It gives you plenty of time to think about the things that YOU really want from life. Like everyone else here has said, take a week or two away, maybe go and see old friends or spend time with your family, and you will feel so much better when you get back to your work. Maybe it was for the best; he just spotted it first. Take care and let us know how you get on.

Anyone else feeling overwhelmed?
C

You are so lucky that you've got all of these amazing things coming up! This is what life is all about - just deal with one thing at a time and make sure you regularly give yourself time to chill out and do other things along side the work - and you will be absolutely fine.
I've been hanging around most of this summer just waiting and waiting for my research masters to begin. Sooo boring! You get to a point where you're so bored that you start spotting things about yourself that you had never noticed before, such as spotting a small spider vein (or something like that) and thinking that your whole world is going to fall apart because you've got some disease!
Or is this just me?
Bascially, what I am saying is, life can actually be far more stressful when you have absolutely nothing to do at all, and can't see what your future has in store for you. It seems to me like you really know where you are going in life and it sounds like you are doing really well. You might not have been given half of those responsibilities if they thought you couldn't handle it. :-) Good luck and enjoy it KB.

just a little niggle...

Hi all,

I'm starting a masters at the end of this month, but there's just one thing that is niggling me a bit - I have to fund it myself. Does everyone else get funding for theirs or are there a lot of people that are also paying for their masters/phd themselves? See, I told you it was just a little niggle, but I'm a bit gutted that I applied for my masters too late because I also missed all the deadlines for funding. :-(

Oooh...wait a minute... oh no - I've got that funny feeling again - would you all mind giving me a bit of privacy on the victory chair? I've got some business to tend to. :-)

While you were all away, I decided to create a built-in toilet on the victory chair - just for convenience really.
Seeing as I have christened it already, I will completely understand if nobody wants to sit in it anymore.
So, I guess that makes me the winner then! :$

Chunder!!!!

Sorry, just threw up on this thread. Does that mean I've won? :-)

Please Help me to decide!!

Nanoelectronics sounds like the most interesting by far! Everybody seems to be doing all the other stuff on that list - at least with the southampton one there are more opportunities to get involved with some really interesting and original stuff, and what better time to do it than now!
Good luck with deciding Raham, but I think deep down you already know which one you want to do 8-)
