book chapter

Hey guys,

I would like to ask you guys if a book chapter is regarded as highly as a journal article? Is a book chapter more easily accepted for publication than a journal article, relatively speaking? How can I write a book chapter for publication? thx!

author publication fees?
D

Hi all,

I found one journal that requires authors to pay a pulication fee for an accepted paper? why is that? Are journals of this type not good as compared with other journals in which the fee is excluded? thx thx

my journal article still with the editor status
D

i finished the second round of the peer review for my paper. The editor said it is still not ready for publication but she is willing to give me one more chance to revise and resubmit my paper. i finished revising it and sent it back to the editor. it has been almost one month since I submitted the paper. The status of my paper is still with the editor. i am very anxious now! why does she not send it out for peer review? Will the editor not the reviewers read my paper this time because this is the third round? should I send an email to the editor? any advice? thx a lot in advance!

any advice on my first conference
D

I am almost done with my Powerpoint for my conference. I will rehearse my presentation soon and brainstorm some possible questions that the audience will raise. But I am afraid that the audience will ask me something that I dont know or something so difficult. What would you do if you were asked some difficult questions that you could not answer well? any advice? thanks for your help!

Attending a conference
D

I will give a short presentation in an international conference next week. I have just looked at the flow of the conference. After all the presentations are done, there is a session called "remarks from the chair", followed by a Q & A session. I have no idea what the first session is. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks for your help.

still need revision after 2nd round of peer review

one reviwer is not satisfied with one of my revisions but another reviewer is ok with it. Now the editor gave me one more chance to revise the paper and send the revised paper back in two months! I have already asked my supervisor to read the earlier version. I know he is busy... dont want to bother him again! And it is hard to finish my revision in two months. what should I do?any advice? thx!!!

any advice?

Every time I attend conferences and seminars held by professors and students, I am attentive, listening to what they say and hoping to interact with them and ask them questions in the Q & A session. But I always end up being less confident to ask them questions because I am worried my questions are too 'stupid' and 'simple'. Have you had this experience and anxiety?

In conferences and seminars, how do you guys deal with very difficult questions from the audience? It is hard to predict what questions the audience will ask. If I really dont know the answers, should I be honest to tell the audience that I really dont know them? Any other way that people usually do to handle this situation?

Thanks!

how do you interpret this?
D

thanks very much for your replies. for the statistical analysis, should I discuss it with the journal editor? coz I know the editor is an expert in my field and I found that some papers that adopted the same methodology as mine in my paper do not include statistical analyses, which is why I think the statistical analysis is not necessay in my paper.

how do you interpret this?

I got the editior's report on my research paper that I sent to an academic journal earlier. The editor said that while the reviewers found positives in the paper, it is not ready for publication in this present form. And the editor said me to revise and resubmit it. Do you think that the paper will be published after my resubmission?

I also would like to seek your advice. One reviewer asked me to add an statistical analysis to the paper. But I dont think it is necessary. If I refuse to do so, will the reviewer say anything negative about my paper?

thx for your help!!!

proposal presentation
D

i will have my first proposal presentation very soon. i am practising my 'speech'. it should be ok. what i am worried is that i may not be able to answer questions from the audience including professors. i am so nervous abt that. what do you usually do to sove this problem? if they really ask me a question that is diffuclt for me to answer, what should i do? any advice? thx

Submitted my journal paper
D

Thanks for your replies. I have checked the review time. The journal says '4 to 8 weeks'. That means I need to wait for at least one month or even a longer time. I hope that they will not reject me directly and I won't mind making another set of revisions if they accept my paper. But I know the chance I have of having my paper published is still unknown. Do journal editors always ask authors to revise their papers? I mean 'big revisions'.

Submitted my journal paper
D

I have submitted my first paper to a journal and been informed that my paper is being reviewed by an editor who is also a co editor of the journal. I am not sure if it will be published. But i still feel happy because the journal editor did not reject my paper at this initial stage. I heard that most journal papers are rejected before they are sent to editors for peer review. But how long does it take for the review process?
